Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary is one of Kerala's most spectacular protected forests, located in the Thenmala region of Kollam District. Covering approximately 172.4 square kilometres, the sanctuary forms part of the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO-recognized biodiversity hotspot in the Western Ghats. Established in 1984, Shendurney is renowned for its dense evergreen forests, scenic reservoirs, rich wildlife, trekking trails, and eco-tourism experiences. It is a paradise for nature lovers, wildlife photographers, bird watchers, and adventure enthusiasts.
The sanctuary was officially declared a wildlife sanctuary on 25 August 1984 to protect its unique flora and fauna.
